4WD or 2WD?
While searching for a vehicle, have you ever come across the word: 4WD and 2WD?
Here’s a simple explanation of the differences between 2WD and 4WD.
4WD
A four wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that allows all four wheels to receive torque from the engine simultaneously.
It is also at times written as 4×4. The first figure is the number of wheels, and the second is the number of powered wheels.
<Pros of 4WD>
- Better traction in corners and on loose dirt.
- Recommended for driving in snow.
2WD
A four wheed vehicle with a drivetrain that allows two wheels to receive power from the engine simultaneously.
Also written as 4×2. The first figure is the number of wheels, and the second number is the number of powered wheels. With a 4×2, engine power is transmitted to only two wheels, usually the rear.
<Pros of 2WD>
- Better gas mileage compared to 4WD.
